Although accidents can happen at any intersection, Las Vegas car accidents occur more often at six particular crossings in the city. It isn’t surprising since Las Vegas has some of the busiest roads in the country. Over 640,000 people are living in the city, but over 42 million tourists also take to the unfamiliar streets while on vacation. These are the six most dangerous intersections in Las Vegas along with information on what makes them so vulnerable.
Boulder and Nellis
Located near Sam’s Town Hotel & Gambling Hall, the intersection of Boulder and Nellis can confuse even the most experienced local to become confused. The intersection is hectic by nature because of where it is located, but some of the connections are confusing. It is also packed with tourists towing travel trailers or driving large RVs to the Sam’s Town KOA which can add to the danger of the intersection.
I-215 and I-15 Highways
Known as “The 15” and the “The 215” by locals, if you drive in the Las Vegas area you probably go through the intersection of the two highways often. The 15 travels past the Strip and Downtown as well as out of the city toward Las Vegas Motor Speedway. It is a popular route for those heading to Mesquite, Zion National Park, Brianhead and other areas outside the city. In the other direction, the highway passes Silverton, Southpoint and M casinos before heading out of the town toward Goodsprings, Jean, and Primm. The 215 travels east and west, crossing The 15 at one of the most dangerous intersections in the city.
Flamingo Road and Pecos Road
Although Flamingo Road and Pecos Road is the type of intersection found throughout the city, Las Vegas car accidents occur there very often. It is very congested with many retail outlets, restaurants, gas stations, offices, and apartment buildings. Accidents in this intersection are usually caused by human error as people aren’t paying attention, try to get through a light as it is turning or don’t pay attention and turn in front of other vehicles.
West Sahara Avenue and Arville Street
This intersection is located west of the Strip and is particularly dangerous to pedestrians. This is due to the substantial traffic traveling in all directions. In one six month period in 2011, 11 collisions caused injuries at this intersection. According to injury lawyers in Las Vegas, accidents in this intersection are often caused by inattentive driving.
West Tropicana Avenue and South Decatur Boulevard
Located just outside of the Orleans Hotel and Casino, the intersection of West Tropicana Avenue and South Decatur Boulevard is heavily congested. Because of its proximity to the casino, there is also a significant amount of foot traffic in the area. This combination makes this intersection prone to driver distraction and failure to pay attention which can lead to both vehicle and pedestrian accidents.
Paradise Road and East Tropicana Avenue
This intersection is near many of the most popular casinos in Las Vegas. This leads to a significant amount of congestion on the roadway as well as a large number of pedestrians in the area. It is also right off the main campus of the University of Las Vegas which adds additional vehicle and foot traffic. All of this combined results in a large number of Las Vegas car accidents each year.
